How to clean tinted windows the right way

  • admin

So you have just gotten your windows tinted on your car or perhaps you had some tinting done in your home or office…you are loving the results and all the benefits tint has to offer. But let’s face it…you don’t want to imagine the reality that at some point you are going to have to clean them…right?

I know how daunting it can be to clean windows that are already tinted…you don’t want to scratch or damage the film in anyway…you just want that crisp, clear vision without the hassle.

Let’s start with what not to use when cleaning tinted windows to get the ball rolling here.

Any cleaning equipment that is considered sharp or abrasive in anyway should completely be avoided to protect the film from getting scratched…examples are scourers, paper, newspaper, towels, knives, plastic cards etc.

Avoid using cleaning products that are blue in colour or contain ammonia and harsh chemicals…these products can potentially lighten the colour of the film as well as cause the film to break down and become brittle.

Cleaning tinted windows is actually very easy and less complicated than you think.

Firstly, less is best! Although most safer cleaning products are fine to use, I always use a few drops of baby shampoo in a spray bottle full of water and use that as my cleaning solution. I also have a scratch resistant sponge, a squeegee and a microfibre cloth in my repertoire.

Depending on the state of the windows and how dirty they are depends on your cleaning method.

If they are quite dirty a good dosing of the safe cleaning solution can be applied to the window, followed by a decent going over with the sponge, followed by the squeegee and then finishing with a microfibre cloth.

Sometimes a quick spray to the window, not applying too much of the solution, followed by the cloth is just as good a method…or in some cases just the microfibre cloth alone is all that is needed…especially if you don’t have a squeegee on hand or you just need to spot clean.

If you have just had your windows tinted it is best to leave any cleaning needed on the inside of the windows until they are completely dry…at least a week.. or if you have to do a quick spot clean the microfiber cloth is all you will need.

I’m sure after reading this you will be surprised at how simple keeping tinted windows clean really is and probably grateful that you no longer have to waste extra money on specialized glass cleaners that generally leave a trail of stinky and streaky mess behind!
