Mirror Film..how does it work?

Mirror film is a specialized window film made to perform certain functions…it just happens that one of the biggest benefits is that you can now easily pop outside to re apply your makeup or check out your appearance without actually owning a mirror!…so this is actually true but let’s get down to the serious version of the benefits of mirror films and why this film is in its own special league.

Mirror window films striking effect comes from the fact that it contains metallic particles and reflects light at a 3:1 ratio…meaning that the outward facing reflective side of the film now becomes 3 times brighter than the opposite side of the film..creating a mirrored effect.

This mirrored effect works perfectly when light is directly hitting the film…during the day it is virtually impossible to see through windows tinted with this film.

Because of this highly reflective feature it makes this film perfect for use in office fronts or in homes where more natural light is needed inside but full daytime privacy can be achieved.

When inside your home or office space during the day you can clearly see out of the tinted windows but no one can see in.

Because the reflective feature of this film is reliant on light hitting it’s surface to work…this means that at night the mirror effect is reversed and is now on the inside of the windows.

Now that the 3:1 ratio is reversed it means that light can pass through the windows in the opposite direction, where you cant see out and people can see in …confusing I know!

If you are wanting to achieve full privacy at night time after applying this film you will need to use curtains or apply lights to the front of your house that are brighter than what you have inside.

So after saying all that we can establish that this film isn’t for everyone but it does have its purpose and place in the world.

Reflective window films are extremely popular for use in commercial buildings because of its unique, bold appearance and full daytime privacy. It has the highest levels of heat and glare rejection which is perfect for keeping cooling costs down and to keep excess glare off computer screens in offices. Definitely a popular one with Security booths and offices as confidentiality and privacy is of highest priority.

In homes reflective films are generally applied for daytime privacy or the film is applied to sun facing windows to reflect heat, glare and UV radiation away from the house. This does regulate the temperature inside the house nicely and offers protection from interior fading but in winter, certain circumstances may mean more heating may be required.

When applying mirror tint to your home you will have to take certain factors into consideration… like will certain reflections be bouncing into your neighbours home or distract drivers if you live close to a main road? Sometimes the reflections can cause birds to fly into the windows which isn’t very nice…this is typically if there is a lot of trees around as they can see it as a clear flight path for them.
