In recent times I have noticed that there is a lot of interest around home renovations….and I kind of sense that this DIY phase didn’t just happen overnight!
I feel like this sparked interest in home renovations has been building for some time due to a combination of factors including years of being over exposed to tv shows like the block, an influx of social media and youtube content mixed together with a surprise stint in isolation…combine all of the above and you get the perfect recipe for bringing the dominant DIY gene out in all of us!
I mean there was a worldwide pandemic and yet I had never seen Bunnings busier in my life!
You couldn’t really even go anywhere else, it was either Woolies or Bunnings…and so the home renovation revolution began…well not literally.. but through my eyes it did!
Now in no way am I suggesting that this is a bad thing, in fact I think that it is great that people are getting passionate about improving the appearance of their home and taking the initiative to tackle new projects by themselves!
I have had a lot of interesting conversations with people wanting to bring their creative visions to life and I have completed work for customers that are currently renovating or upgrading the look of their home.
I have removed old, unsightly film and replaced it with new, fresh solar film…the results are instantaneous and can transform the entire look of the house in a day!
Solar film blocks the ability to see directly into windows throughout the day which offers a clean, streamline finish for the front of the house and you get the added benefits of internal temperature control, full daytime privacy and UV solar protection.
Frosted films have been a simple, cost effective solution to quickly revamp and update areas within the home, offering privacy and allowing light to still filter in. This has been especially popular for use in bathrooms, front entrances, privacy screens and kitchen areas.
Working alongside Glass shop I have seen multiple shower screens installed, frameless mirrors, bathroom makeovers, splashbacks and even specialised panels of glass delivered to be used on bespoke architectural creations. This is not really DIY but you have to admit that at some point a youtube video isn’t going to cut it and at some stage professionals are most definitely required to complete certain renovations.
I have recently had a few people DIY their own window tinting….the funny thing is every time without fail I get the line…wow tinting was easier than I imagined it wasn’t hard at all!?
I usually end up coming back a few months later to remove and replace the film that is peeling from the corners, is littered with dirt and the creases and the spears that are scattered throughout are completely hindering the ability to see clearly out of the window! Still waiting for the day that I see a decent DIY window tinting example but I will be over the moon if I do!
Funnily enough since I have been writing this post I have been reminded by ads on tv about home renovations, better homes and gardens, Bunnings DIY ads and channels that are constantly broadcasting american renovation shows day and night. Scrolling through instagram is not much different although there are a lot more of the DIY home renovators showcasing their newly found talents.
Bunnings stores are still packed, you will literally find it hard to find a car park if you are wanting to purchase a few items or feel like perusing the indoor plant section…safe to say I think the renovation revolution is still in full swing and may be hanging around for a while longer! Well not literally…but in my eyes I reckon it might be!
