Indoor plants have the ability to turn your home into a sanctuary!
Studies have shown that indoor plants can induce feelings of relaxation and creativity, they can raise your endorphins and bring life back to sterile environments.
Indoor plants are known to be beneficial to our health as they cleanse the air by absorbing toxins and producing oxygen, resulting in a reduction of stress, fatigue, colds and flus.
Indoor plants are also extremely beautiful…they can be just as intriguing and wonderful as a picasso print on the wall and because of all the above benefits we love having them in our home…i know i do!
I know certain people who will go above and beyond to make sure their indoor plants are thriving and loving the environment that they are in and are not too happy if their plants are not.
Living in Perth we can have extreme cold and intense heat at different times of the year and even the inside of our homes are affected during these times. I have seen indoor plants take a sudden turn after a hot day near a window sill and some die after a few days of summer heat.
This is where window tinting can be the perfect solution to keeping your indoor plants happy and healthy! I have installed window film in peoples homes that couldn’t place their plants near the window sill because they would burn and wilt. But after window film installation had reported that their plants had never looked better, needed a lot less care and were now positioned right up against the window!
This is because window film is a master of maintaining temperature within a home!
Light is still visible but the intensity of it is removed. The film reflects the uv radiation and heat during summer and in winter the film doesn’t allow the warmth to escape through the glass, so the temperature stays more constant. This also means less heating or cooling is needed to maintain a comfortable temperature, which means plants don’t dry out as easily and you also save money on your electricity bills.
Frosted films or frosted glass also create the perfect environment for plants to thrive because they diffuse the light which takes the intensity out of it. I have seen plants double in size in a short time of being in a bathroom with frosted windows while also creating that sanctuary feel!
There are certain indoor plants that do require different levels of light to grow. The darker green plants that are higher in chlorophyll are more adaptable and more able to utilize the light they have around them to grow, where plants that are variegated or lighter in colour do tend to need more light. Positioning of plants to where they may need more or less light is still a factor in helping indoor plants to thrive!
There is also notions that plants need uv rays to grow and that because most window films block 99% of uv rays, that window tinting would inhibit plant growth. The truth is, plants only need blue and red light to grow and these are not on the uv colour spectrum. The blue light encourages chlorophyll production and the red light helps with the early stages of plant life. Together this spectrum of light encourages accelerated growth, creating strong stems, leaves and root growth with enhanced bulb, flower and fruit production!
The only thing I have heard of in the past is that there can be a slight adjustment period for a few days after window tinting has been installed where plants can sometimes wilt a little bit but will generally bounce back stronger in a few days time. But for the most part I have only heard of plants flourishing and thriving near tinted windows, where they require less water and produce flowers that last longer!
And from experience I know that thriving indoor plants creates a much happier and healthy environment to live in…the sanctuary vibe is most definitely attainable!
