Tinted Windows vs Tinted Glass

  • admin

This is a subject that at Tint Perth we know a little bit about as we often collaborate with a Perth based glass company called Glass Shop. We converse over certain jobs to see if we can come up with the best option for the customer and sometimes work on jobs together.

There are pros and cons to both window tinting and installing tinted or laminated glass.

Firstly tinted glass is a permanent fixture where the whole panel would need to be replaced if a change is needed or required. Window film is a more flexible option and it can be removed and replaced whenever needed.

This is also the same for frosted and decorative films that can be replaced or updated on a whim.

Tinted glass has a crisp and clean look and will remain well kept and in tact as the laminate is in the centre of the glass and is protected from the outside world.

Where window tinting can look just as good with the right application but can be more prone to wear and tear as it can be scratched or even peel off over time if its not given the right treatment.

Window tinting also has a slight gap all the way around the inside of the window where it has been trimmed where the laminated glass goes all the way to the edges, which is a nice finish.

Tinted glass and window films have both been known in the past to fade over time but modern technology has now improved the quality and lifespan of both options and they are now made to last. Long gone are the days of the purple haze effect!

Window film comes with a lifetime warranty which means you are covered if anything goes south at any point and although tinted glass doesn’t come with a warranty the laminate on the inside is well protected so it should be made to last.

Window tinting is by far the cheaper option over laminated glass by usually around 50% but that depends entirely on what windows they are or the situation at hand.

Both window tinting and tinted glass both have their place in the world and I recommend both options for the right application and scenario. If you are not sure on what option might be the best for you feel free to contact us with any questions you might have.
