Here in Perth we don’t have to deal with snow during the winter but we still get hit with a lot of glare during the day and it definitely gets super crisp and chilly here during the night and early mornings!
I actually get asked this question a lot, could window tinting make it too cold in the house during winter and could it make certain rooms too dark?’
First things first, window tint will not make your house seem cooler in winter, in fact it will do the exact opposite and insulate your windows by helping retain the interior heat!
Because windows make up a big portion of a house they need extra attention given to them so that they don’t radiate heat through the summer months and leak cold air during the winter months. Window film can be the catalyst that turns that around so that you have consistent temperature regulation all year round and thereby save money by reducing excess heating and cooling costs.
I have had concerns from customers about the rooms in their house being too dark during winter time. That’s why choosing the right window film from the start helps and that’s where my job comes in. Saying that, one thing that is very strong during the winter months in Perth is glare, as soon as it becomes rainy, overcast and there is a hint of sunshine around it can be brutal. This is where window film will work it’s magic by reflecting glare and strong UV rays so that the light in the house will remain pleasant and generally constant. Also the type of light that you will see through tinted windows isn’t overly dark, it just changes once the glare is removed so that it is no longer harsh and strong to look at, kind of like looking through polarised glasses!
The other benefits that you get from installing window film is that you will maintain full day time privacy and the overall effect is aesthetically pleasing! So it seems that there is only more reason to have tinted windows during winter and all year round in Perth really!

My uncle has been complaining about how hot their area is lately, and he’s looking for ideas on how to fight the weather. I find it amazing to having a window film installed in your home can help regulate the temperature inside your rooms. I’ll recommend that he consider contacting a home window tinting expert.
Hi Zachary
Yes, installing window film to your windows can dramatically regulate the temperature throughout the entire house. It will increase comfort levels and decrease the need for excess heating and cooling. The tint will act as a thermal blanket for your windows and will work for you all year round. ( or your uncle )
If you find a window tinting expert near you I am sure they can direct your uncle in the right direction to get the best overall outcome!
